A 57-year-old Bear Valley Springs man has been arrested on charges including attempted murder and was booked into the Kern County Jail with $250,000 bail, according to a news release from the Bear Valley Springs Police Dept.
Police said James Dale Wilson was arrested for attempted murder, domestic battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and obstruction.
The arrest came following the response of a Bear Valley Springs police officer to a medical alert alarm activation from within a residence in the 23300 block of Lakeview Drive at approximately 6:06 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29.
Information from the medical alert dispatcher indicated that upon calling to confirm the activation, a woman could be heard screaming for help in the background, while a male voice stated no help was needed and then hung up the phone, according to the news release.
Upon the officer arriving, the officer observed two females inside, one who appeared to have received facial injuries.
At this time, the release stated, the officer was confronted at the doorway by James Dale Wilson, who in an aggressive manner brandished a knife at the officer while struggling, and eventually slamming the front door on the officer.
This altercation at the front door allowed Wilson’s wife to escape from the house through the garage door.
Additional officers from the California Highway Patrol, Stallion Springs, Tehachapi, Bear Valley and Kern County Sheriff responded and at 11:11 p.m., after obtaining a warrant, officers entered the residence and took Wilson into custody.
