NWS issues Red Flag Warning and Wind Advisory

A Red Flag Warning and Wind Advisory have been issued for the Kern County Mountains by the National Weather Service in Hanford, both of which will remain in effect until Wednesday.

Due to very low humidities and strong winds over the Kern County Mountains, if fire ignition were to occur, there could be rapid spread and extreme behavior with threat to life and property, the NWS says. Affected areas include Tehachapi, Bear Valley Springs, Pine Mountain Club, Frazier Park, Lebec, Walker Basin and the Sequoia National Forest including the Piutes.

The warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday night.

A Wind Advisory was also issued by the NWS, which says east to northeast winds in the Kern County Mountains will reach 25 to 35 mph with gusts near 50 mph. Due to crosswinds, travel in high profile vehicles will be difficult, the advisory states.

The advisory will remain in effect until 1 a.m. Wednesday.
