Continuous circling of a police helicopter over the area near Tehachapi's Central Park around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12 attracted a lot of attention from neighbors.

According to Tehachapi Police Chief Jeff Kermode, the helicopter was providing support for officers assisting the Kern County Sheriff's Office in locating a possibly armed suspect.

Kermode said the KCSO was staked out on the suspect on Pepper Street.

"He ran north and east to the alley between E and F," the chief said. "They believe he is contained in the area."

At about the time of that statement, Tehachapi PD officers could be observed with their guns drawn outside a home in the 400 block of Pepper Street, about a block east of the park. Just before 7:45 p.m. the officers and the helicopter left.

Efforts to reach the KCSO just after this time were unsuccessful.

Additional information will be reported when available.
