Heritage Oak School rewards readers!

Each January Heritage Oak Christian School encourages their kindergarten through sixth grade students to participate in a Read-A-Thon to promote reading for fun after the Christmas vacation. Students have three weeks to read as much as they could for pleasure. Novels, magazines, newspapers or comic books all counted. Students who read for six or more hours were rewarded with a Free Dress Pass (so they don't have to wear their school uniform for a day) as well as a free ticket to Magic Mountain, courtesy of the Six Flags "Read to Succeed" Program.

Thirty one students participated in the Read-A-Thon this year and all combined they read over 328 HOURS over the three week period. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, the students were rewarded with a party to celebrate their achievement and the love of reading. Students were encouraged to bring their favorite book, a blanket or sleeping bag, and a pillow to spend some time curling up with a good book and enjoy some special snacks. The top five students with the most minutes read received gift certificates to Yogurt Junction.

The top five students were: Izaak Ryder: first place with 2525 minutes (6th grade), David Warrick: second place with 2429 minutes (6th grade), Gracie Knowlton: third place with 1691 minutes (6th grade), Su Pollard: fourth place with 1,532 minutes (2nd grade), Abby Trigo: fifth place with 1125 minutes (2nd grade).
