The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Kern County until 5:45 p.m. on Friday, July 13.
NWS Doppler Radar has indicated very heavy rain from a thunderstorm near Jawbone Canyon, 39 miles east of Bakersfield, moving southeast at 5 mph.
Radar estimates more than an inch of rain per hour from this storm.
Additional rainfall will produce flash flooding of small washes and arroyos, the NWS reports.
Flood waters could reach Highway 14 near Jawbone and Red Rock Canyons.
Frequent lightning is also occurring — seek shelter if you are in the path of this storm.
Also subject to the watch are Cottonwood, Caliente and Cache Creek.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.
