The Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District has chosen LeAnn Williams as its new recreation supervisor.
Recently hired District Manager Matt Young selected Williams, 36, after a national candidate search attracted numerous applicants from all over the country for the newly created position.
Williams, who began on April 22, 2013, was offered the job for $47,000 a year plus full benefits.
"LeAnn brings a level of excellence to the district in both education and experience," Young said. "She will be instrumental in helping maintain our current level of service as well as helping to shape the future of our organized sports and passive recreation activities."
Williams comes to the district with over 10 years of experience in collegiate athletics, fundraising, race directing and sports and recreation, and is a member of the National Recreation and Park Association and California Park and Recreation Society.
She holds a Master of Science in Sports Administration from the University of Central Missouri where she worked as an assistant women's basketball coach.
Prior to joining the district, Williams also worked as an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of North Florida and as a race director in Virginia Beach, Va., while serving as the president of Oceana Scholarship Fund, Inc. She was most recently the sport and facility director at MWR China Lake NAWS.
Williams said she is excited about the opportunity with TVRPD and looks forward to forging partnerships in the community and providing diverse programming that promotes a lifestyle of health and wellness that the entire family can enjoy.
