The Board of Directors of Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District will hold a special meeting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, to consider appointing a Chief Executive Officer.
The meeting will be held in the hospital's executive conference room at 115 W. "E" St., Tehachapi.
The CEO position was vacated by Alan Burgess last October. Burgess had been with the district for six years and shepherded the hospital construction project through its groundbreaking the previous March. He said his retirement was for health reasons.
Following his resignation, Christine Sherrill, who was working as the hospital's privacy officer, was appointed the Acting CEO. Sherrill said at the time she was not interested in the job long-term.
In late December the board contracted with Evan Rayner to be Interim CEO. Rayner began his duties in Tehachapi at the beginning of December, following board approval of his contract at the Nov. 20 regular meeting.
The New Jersey native acquired his master's in health care administration nearly 30 years ago, and said he has worked in the field ever since.
Rayner has been more than a placeholder; during his tenure construction on the new hospital has continued while the district has worked to provide more services at the existing facility.
It is unknown whether the board will actually take action during Thursday afternoon's closed session.
