A medical transport carrying one patient flipped on its side on Bear Valley Road on Aug. 1 after it was sideswiped by a truck.
According to CHP Officer Leonard Dehart, the medical transport was transporting the patient to a nursing home when a Dodge dual-wheel truck collided with it.
Dehart said the driver of the pickup had apparently dozed off and entered the opposite lane, sideswiped the transport, causing it to tip over at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Roost Avenue. The pickup ended up in a ditch on the southbound lane of Bear Valley Road.
The patient suffered some lacerations and a worker had glass embedded in his arms, according to Dehart. The driver of the pickup was uninjured.
No drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
The accident caused traffic to back up on both lanes of Bear Valley for approximately 20 minutes before moving slowly again, with Bear Valley police officers providing traffic control.
