Tehachapi man killed in Arvin traffic accident

A traffic accident in Arvin left one Tehachapi man dead on Tuesday, July 8, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Hugo Montiel, 49, died when his motorcycle collided with a big rig on East Bear Mountain Boulevard near Arvin Gravel Plant at approximately 12:30 p.m. Montiel died at the scene of the accident.

The truck driver, Thomas Sielinski of Bakersfield, was uninjured in the report.

Montiel's name was released by the Kern County coroner's office shortly after 5:30 p.m. following the notification of his family.

According to a CHP news release, Montiel was traveling eastbound on Highway 223 near Arvin Gravel when Sielinski existed the facility on to the roadway. Montiel apparently tried to avoid the big rig and dropped his bike to avoid a collision.

Unfortunately, Montiel struck the big rig after sliding on the road and was killed. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been involved with either party.

According to Roberto Rodriguez, public information officer for CHP's Bakersfield office, no new information has been discovered. The accident remains under investigation.
