The large volume of smoke rising from the area near the California Correctional Institution in Cummings Valley is from a controlled burn around the waste water ponds.
According to Information officer Brian Skaggs, the burn is just to clean up the area and for fire safety. The fire is being controlled by CCI fire crews and no structures are in danger.
