Two arrested in Sand Canyon marijuana bust

Two Tehachapi men are behind bars after deputies found around 100 marijuana plants growing inside a garage at a home on Pasture Street in Sand Canyon on June 27.

Authorities said as a result of an investigation conducted by deputies from the Tehachapi substation, with the assistance of the Kern Narcotics Enforcement Team, they have arrested 26-year-old Joseph Hodgkinson and 25-year-old Marcus Palmer for cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales and manufacturing of an illegal substance.

Also discovered during thier search, deputies said they found evidence that the two men were also performing a chemical extraction of the marijuana to produce "honey oil," which is a concentrated oil filled with THC -- the active ingredient in marijuana.

According to police, the search warrant that led to the pair's arrest, was obtained approximately one week after a Tehachapi patrol deputy, who had been sent to the residence for an unrelated matter, saw evidence of a possible illegal marijuana grow on the property.
