Storage thefts on the rise: search results in recovery

Storage thefts are on the rise in Tehachapi, and how thieves are gaining access may come as a surprise.

On Monday, Dec. 3 the Tehachapi Police Department served a search warrant on a storage unit at the "U Stuff It" storage facility at 1090 Cherry Lane. During their search, officers recovered several thousand dollars worth of stolen property that thieves had taken by gaining access from an adjacent storage unit.

It was the exact same method law enforcement discovered during a previous search at the business back on Nov. 13.

Some of the recovered property has already been identified and returned to its rightful owners. However, the remaining property includes a Burton snowboard, a Compaq computer monitor, a Suncom game controller, a Lincoln grease gun, an Edelbrock manifold cover, a truck tent, medical books, what appears to be a late 1800s to early 1900s family photo album, and a Hot Wheels toy car collection.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking everyone to check their storage unit to be sure it has not been broken into.
