A theft of a laptop at West Park Skate Park on July 27 led Tehachapi police officers and Kern County sheriff's deputies on a pursuit that ended when they chased the suspect up a tree, literally.
Tehachapi police officers and sheriff's deputies arrested Robert Todd, 34, of Tehachapi after he surrendered early July 28, according to the Tehachapi Police Department.
Todd had allegedly stolen a laptop computer from West Park on July 27. Todd had already fled the area prior to police officers showing up. The victim of the robbery suffered minor injuries during the event.
Officers later learned that Todd had fled toward Loop Ranch, where Kern County Sheriff's deputies noticed the suspect had fled into the mountain area near Broome Ranch. Todd attempted to evade arrest by hiding in a tree.
Todd positioned himself 40 feet in the tree and refused to surrender. After nine hours of negotiation with officers and deputies, Todd surrenders. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and dehydration before being booked into Kern County Central Receiving Facility on charges of robbery, parole violation, resisting/obstructing arrest and obstructing or resisting an officer.
