Tehachapi police rescue child in alleged kidnapping

Tehachapi police assisted in the rescue of a 3-year-old child allegedly kidnapped from the Bakersfield area on Thursday evening, March 20.

According to Officer Scott Ketcham of the Tehachapi Police Dept., police received a request to assist another agency as a helicopter followed a vehicle up Highway 58 from Bakersfield.

Ketcham was uncertain if the alleged kidnapping took place in Bakersfield or county jurisdiction.

TPD worked with officers from the California Highway Patrol and Kern County Sheriffs Officer to locate the suspect vehicle with the assistance of the helicopter pilot.

The vehicle was spotted on H Street, just south of Highway 58 within the City of Tehachapi and stopped near the intersection of H and North Curry Street.

Two people were taken into custody and the child was rescued.
