Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, is now accepting internship applications for his Summer Internship Program.

“As a former congressional intern myself, I found service to our community and country incredibly fulfilling, and I invite all interested college students and recent graduates to apply for internships in my offices,” McCarthy said in a news release. “We face an important opportunity in our country’s history to provide a more prosperous future for all. This internship offers the ability to learn more about the Federal issues important to our community and build to that brighter future.”

According to a news release from McCarthy's office, Summer Internship applicants should be enrolled in college, at least in their first year of post-secondary studies, with a minimum 3.0 grade point average and possess good writing and computer skills. Preference will be given to residents of California’s 23rd Congressional District (which includes portions of Kern, Tulare and Los Angeles counties); however, all applications will be considered.

Summer interns are responsible for their expenses, including transportation and lodging costs, and may be eligible to receive a $1,500 stipend, before taxes, should they be a resident of the district and intern in both the Bakersfield and Washington offices. The Summer Internship program spans 8 weeks; interns spend 2 weeks in the Bakersfield office and 6 weeks in the Washington, D.C., offices.

Visit or call the Bakersfield office at 327-3611 or the Washington, D.C., office at (202) 225-2915.

Applications and supporting documents should be sent to McCarthy’s Bakersfield office at: 4100 Empire Drive, Suite 150, Bakersfield, California 93309, or emailed to:

Applications must be postmarked or emailed no later than Friday, March 16.
