Young musicians from Tehachapi as well as neighboring locales such as Bakersfield and Hanford arrived Saturday for a day of old time fiddle playing at the United Methodist Church in Old Town.

Any fiddler, picker, be it banjo, guitar, or mandolin, or a bass or cello player and under the age of 20 years was welcome to participate in the event put on by the Tehachapi Old Time Fiddlers.

This was the ninth year of the District-3 youth contest held in Tehachapi. Players performed in their own age and instrument division. Winners would move up for a second round with a finalist chosen in each of the divisions.

Grand Champion and trophy winner was fiddler and picker Joe Wallek.
