Crimes in Tehachapi including murder, aggravated assault and robbery dropped to an all-time low in 2017, according to the Tehachapi Police Department.
Police Chief Kent Kroeger said in a news release that those and other crimes the FBI defines as "Part I Crimes" dropped 18.4 percent in 2017 compared to 2016. There were 278 Part I crimes last year, the lowest ever reported by the department.
It is also the second consecutive year of a drop in Part I crimes. In 2016, those crimes were down 16 percent from the previous year.
"Crime prevention is ultimately a shared responsibility between the local community and law enforcement," Kroeger said in the news release. "Our community is doing an amazing job of taking extra precautions and reducing the opportunity for crimes to occur. By working together, we are having a major impact on crime in the city of Tehachapi."
