The Tehachapi branch of the Kern County library has postponed the opening for its new location to Dec. 4. The grand opening and tour planned for Nov. 13 is canceled, and is planned to be held next month.
The request for postponement was “a result of the California State seismic shelving requirements,” according to a recent press release. This means that additional work needs to be done to brace and anchor shelving units to meet California state standards.
The branch can't open until the requirements are met.
“We apologize for the unanticipated delay and the inconvenience to the Tehachapi mountain communities," the news release said.
For items currently checked out from the Tehachapi Branch Library, due dates have automatically been extended to Dec. 11. Books may be returned to the Tehachapi book drop at 212 S. Green St.
