A 38-year-old woman who died Friday after running in front of a vehicle driven by an off-duty Kern County sheriff's deputy has been identified.
Lynda Lea Tipton, 38, of Rosamond, died roughly 4 1/2 hours after being struck on Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road, south of Hamilton Road, a coroner's release said.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a deputy was driving to work in his county vehicle at 4:55 a.m. when the crash occurred.
The incident occurred shortly after dispatchers received a call of a "distraught and possible suicidal" female in the 4700 block of Tehachapi- Willow Springs Road, according to sheriff's officials. The reporting party said the female was screaming and tried running in front of a passing vehicle.
