Jacobsen’s first semester Renaissance Assembly was held Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a standing room only crowd of parents, family, staff, and students. Over 50 percent of the student body earned some type of award – an amazing feat!
Astronaut and local resident, Rick Searfoss, was the guest speaker. He encouraged students to reach for the stars, to be responsible, and use the “Character Counts pillars” throughout their lives. The school awarded a Character Counts Award to Shianne Ladson, an eighth grade student, for her efforts in demonstrating outstanding character this past quarter.
One hundred and fifteen students received perfect attendance awards for having no absences throughout the entire first semester. Other awards included 192 students receiving second quarter Honor Roll, earning a 3.33 GPA and higher; and a whopping 20 percent of the student body (237 students) receiving second quarter Principal’s Honor Roll for those earning a 3.8 GPA or higher.
Entertainment was disbursed between awards. An Oral Language Festival verse choir group including Colleen Chung, Amanda Borst, Vallarie Neang, Jacob Copus, Jeremy Duke, Bobby Miller, and Selena Demus performed the piece titled Broomates. Ethan Brill performed a piano piece by Bach titled Solfegietto, and Shelbi Pingry sang “We Danced Anyway” by Dena Carter. A special award, BUG (Brought Up Grade), was given to 68 students who all brought their grade point average up from first quarter to second quarter by at least half a grade point and failed no classes during the second quarter.
Certificates, JMS bracelets, shoe tags, water bottles, sparkle pens, and window clings were handed out to students.
