News Bulletin: Search for armed suspect near Hwy 58 and Broome Road

The Kern County Sheriff's Department is conducting an air and ground search for an armed suspect who fled the Golden Hills area earlier tonight. The suspect is believed to be hiding somewhere in the vicinity of Highway 58 and Broome Road, according to the Sheriff's Department. Seven or more ground patrols are searching the area while a helicopter continues to circle overhead.

Update 12:56 a.m.; Dec. 14, 2009:

An unidentified suspect remains at large in spite of an extensive, rural area search conducted in rainy conditions over a period of several hours. Law enforcement officials involved in the search said they believe the suspect is tired, cold and eager to return to the Bakersfield area and likely poses little or no threat to Keene area residents. Law enforcement would not say whether the suspect was  believed to have been involved in a crime at the time the search was initiated. No further information has been released at this time.
