Flying debris narrowly misses driver following accident

A single-vehicle accident on May 16 occurred when Tehachapi resident Susanne Eckel, 59, veered off Highline Road, eventually colliding with a utility pole. The force of the impact caused a 2x4 piece of wood from the fence to penetrate the windshield, narrowly missing the driver. There were no other passengers in the 2003 Acura. The driver was transported to Kern County Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. The cause of the accident is unknown.
