Tehachapi Mountain Riders will host a Poker Ride on Saturday, June 16 in Stallion Springs. This event, dubbed the Triple Deal Poker Ride will feature offer three levels of ride so riders can choose the route that will best suit themselves and their horse. The riders will park at Buckskin Park at the corner of Mustang Drive and Horse Thief Drive in the Stallion Springs area of Tehachapi California. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The registration fee of $20 for adults and $10 for children (under 14) includes lunch. Poker hand are $5. Riders who are not ETI members must also pay a $5 single event membership fee.
“The Pair of Twos” Ride, about two hours long, will have grand vistas over the southern San Joaquin and Cummings Valleys. The single track trail has moderate slopes for short distances.
“The Full House Ride” will take about three hours to ride on single track trail that will have more short steep slopes and the same spectacular views. One version of this ride will include four water crossings. One version will avoid the water of Chanac Creek.
“The Royal Flush Gaited Ride” will cover about 12 miles in three hours and will have flat, park like stretches as well as hills, water and views of the Tejon Ranch and Cummings Valley.
All trails in Stallion Springs are natural surface trails in oak and grassland natural setting which include hazards such as holes, rocks, trees and wildlife. Small ride groups will ensure the safest possible negotiation of these hazards by horses and riders. Tehachapi Mountain Riders is a non-profit group dedicated to good horsemanship and trail preservation.
“Poker” hands are played with cards in envelopes. Cards are picked up along the route and opened by judges at the end of the ride. The hands are judged by standard poker hand rules. The holder of the highest hand will have first pick of the donated prizes.
