Looks like this year is going to be a rough one on animal littering — we are already receiving reports of kitten dumping. How cruel is that? They weren’t even left in a box with their mama — just poured out onto the concrete near a trash receptacle.

It is beyond my comprehension how someone could do such a thing. If you can’t find homes for litters of kittens and puppies take them to a shelter rather than dumping them out in the cold where they usually suffer from the elements, starvation, be eaten by coyotes, or run over by cars.

Room for growth
Have you checked your dog’s collar for fit lately? Puppies grow at a very fast rate, and their collars need to be adjusted or changed to a larger size as they grow. Can you imagine the pain a dog must suffer having a collar so tight it’s imbedded into the skin around its neck?

No matter how they move or are touched they can’t get away from the pain. This happens more often than you think, so be sure to check the fit of your dog’s collar frequently until it’s reached full growth.

Movies for a year!
April is going to be busy with fund raising events. The Hitching Post Theater has come through again by supporting our work — they are going to provide us with tickets for two for a whole year of going to the movies. We will be selling raffle tickets for this truly great prize up until the drawing on June 26.

We will also hold a craft and bake sale with the Tehachapi Railroad Club April 25 and 26 in the Veterans Hall, 125 F St.

We’ll be at Canine Creek celebrating its fifth anniversary on April 25. Spring is here — watch for us!
