Five generations of long-time Tehachapi resident Joanne Brown’s family gathered earlier this year to bid “love and luck” to family matriarch Viola Shook, as she began a journey to a new home in Kansas.

From left, Brown’s great-grandaughter, Madison Solorio, 3, with her mom and Brown’s granddauther, Missy Solorio (wearing sunglasses), Kimberly Solorio (Brown’s daughter), Joanne Brown and her mother Viola Shook (seated).

Brown’s daughters and grandchildren live in Bakersfield. The family gathered for a picnic in honor of Shook’s departure.
