The National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 7, started in Tehachapi with a prayer breakfast sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Tehachapi at St. Malachy Church. Shown, speaker Mary Beth Garrison, special events coordinator for the 2nd Kern County Supervisor District. The breakfast featured prayer for city and county governments by Pastor Marvin Slifer of Mountain Bible Church, scripture reading by Dale Sheeley of Christian Life Assembly and prayer for state and federal governments by Pastor Ron Barker of the First Baptist Church. Assistant Pastor Michael Loehrer of the Bear Valley Springs Community Church gave the invocation; special music by Sally Periman of Wood Family Funeral Services.

The First Baptist Church hosted Tehachapi's National Day of Prayer evening service, with patriotic music by the praise team and choir from Bear Valley Church under the direction of James Peck. The Blue Eagles from Edwards Air Force Base provided the color guard. The speaker was former Tehachapi resident Lt. Col. Enio Aguero, military chaplain based at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

 

Tehachapi's National Day of Prayer events closed with the evening service at the First Baptist Church. The featured speaker was former Tehachapi resident Lt. Col. Enio Aguero, military chaplain based at the Pentagon. He is shown speaking after the Bear Valley praise team and choir left the altar area to sit in the audience. City Councilman Ed Grimes joined First Baptist pastor the Rev. Ron Barker in welcoming the citizens. The theme of the 58th National Day of Prayer was “America's Hope,” Psalm 33:22.
