Three young men hiking the Pacific Crest Trail will present an a capella concert Saturday, June 6, at 3 p.m. at Phillip Marx Central Park to raise money and awareness to build homes for severely disabled United States veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The three left Campo on the Mexican border on May 6 under the banner of Trek for Troops (see web site www.trekfortroops.com) and are making their way to Canada, a trek of 2,650 miles.

Their goal is to raise $100,000 on their 25 re-supply/singing stops.

“We have already raised more than $20,000,” said one of the three, Scott Williams, 23, a native of Great Britain and U.S. Navy veteran who was temporarily laid up with a bug early in the week but planned to be back on the trail with his colleagues.

Williams said he had lost 35 pounds already on the trek.

The other hikers/singers are Paul Rose, 23, of Westlake Village and Matthew Walker, 22, of Ventura County.

The welcoming party for the event is hosted by the American Legion and Auxiliary No. 221 and Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary No. 5948.

The funds collected will provide specially adapted homes for returning disabled veterans.

Trek for Troops is a California non-profit organization.
