Rose Alwena Nelson, 93, passed away quietly in her home on Saturday, May 30, 2009. She had resided in Tehachapi for the last 19 years. Visitation was held Monday, June 8 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service. A Funeral Service was held the following day, Tuesday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment was at Tehachapi Public Cemetery - Eastside.

Rose was born October 4, 1915 in Lockwood, Saskatchewan, Canada to Peter Jacob and Anna Margaret (Scheffe) Fischer. She married Delbert Martin in August 1934 in Kansas. They had one daughter, Rose I. Martin, with whom she was residing at the time of her death. During World War II she worked as a riveter. In 1950 she married Curtis Nelson in Los Angeles. He passed away in 1977. She retired from Hughes Aircraft Company after 19 years as a drill operator.

Rose loved life and had many passions and hobbies. She loved the outdoors, RVing, camping, rock hounding, fishing, bowling, square dancing, and gardening, both vegetables and flowers. Rose raised Arabian horses, sheep and Australian shepherds and won awards for A.K.C. Confirmation and Obedience.

She is survived by her daughter Rose Irene Martin of Tehachapi; brothers, Peter Fischer Jr., and Martin Luther and Mary Jane Fischer; sister, Evelyn Kimmell; sister-in-laws, Evelyn Fischer, Helen Fischer and Reba Fischer; and very special friends, Greg and Laurie Drozd and Marge Hutcheson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Nelson; daughter Charanne Nelson; and son, Lee Roger Dotter; brothers, Ron Fischer, Lawrence Fischer, and Edwin and Shirley Fischer; sister-in-laws, Margaret Fischer, and Golda Fischer; sisters and brother-in-law, Elma and Al Secor.
