Donald Edward Melton, 74, of Tehachapi, California passed away June 5, 2009 peacefully at his home.  He was born June 28, 1934 in Cushman, Arkansas to William Albert Melton and Dora Ellen Tarwater Melton.

Don was employed with the City of Tehachapi for 29 years. He was a volunteer fireman at Tehachapi Fire Station No. 12, where he reached the rank of captain and was also an EMT 1A.

Survivors include his wife, Caroline Melton of Tehachapi; two sons, Bobby Melton of Tehachapi and Billy Melton of Bakersfield; one daughter, Shirley Stillman of Porterville, California; five grandchildren, Arminta Sinks, Janna Byers, Shirley (Tugie) Crawford, Rachel Melton and Sarah Melton; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Crawford, Justin Crawford, Sandra Byers, Travis Orr, Steven Byers, Ivy Crawford, Allison McAfee and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service was held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 1:30 pm at Tehachapi Public Cemetery - Eastside.  Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. handled the arrangements.
