The Tehachapi Heritage League’s annual Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social lured local folks downtown last Thursday, as spring melted sweetly into a summer afternoon.

With the south end of Green Street closed off, visitors enjoyed passing back and forth from the historical exhibits at the Tehachapi Museum and the historic Errea House.

Debbie Hand and Peter Cutler performed folk songs on the front porch of the 1900’s-era house.

An exhibit in the Errea House celebrates the 100th anniversary of the charter that established the Town of Tehachapi on Aug. 13, 1909.

On display was a special showing of photographs of the past Mayors of Tehachapi, starting with Phillip Marx in 1909. A series of old maps help tell the story of the town, now known as the City of Tehachapi, as it grew from the original city limits. Other artifacts and photos show the people who thrived in the small town atmosphere of Tehachapi.

Renovation of the Errea House will restore and showcase its history from the 1900 to 1930 period, when it housed a working class family of Spanish Basque descent.
Special showings can be arranged by appointment during the summer for civic, social and other interested groups to see the Centennial exhibit.
