Aria Curzon, a prize-winning Irish dancer, will join the staff of Camp Kiya, July 26-28, in Tehachapi Mountain Park.
The camp is co-sponsored by the Arts Council of Kern and the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District.
Fiddlers Jamie Laval, Joe Craven and Jan Tappan will teach different fiddle styles.
Zac Leger will be on hand to teach guitar as well as penny whistle. Mandolin, cello, ukulele, harmonica, singing and improvisation are among the other workshops taught.
Local instructors include Jill Egland, of Banshee in the Kitchen, Deborah Hand, Suzanne Botha, Lauren and Ken Leiboff, Bill Lorenz, and Kathleen Wolf.
A special concert July 25 held at 7 p.m. in the BeeKay Theatre will introduce the visiting instructors to Tehachapi. Curzon will perform both hard- and soft-shoe Irish dances. The concert will be recorded for later use on the program FolkScene, on radio station KPFK in Los Angeles and in syndication worldwide.
Curzon caught the acting and dancing bug at the age of five, while watching one of her favorite Shirley Temple videos. At the age of six, she began her acting career in a Crayola commercial. Today she is a busy performer. She is also steeped in music, and enjoys singing and learning both guitar and fiddle.
Curzon has guest-starred on many television shows including Without A Trace, JAG, The Pretender, and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. She has also done voiceover work in such animated films as The Land Before Time film series, and has starred in countless radio commercials and TV spots. She is a regular in the animated series The Land Before Time which premiered in March 2007.
