The Kern County Fire Department along with the Bureau of Land Management responded to a wildland fire near Tehachapi.

On Saturday Aug. 29 at 3:40 p.m., fire dispatch received numerous calls of fire and smoke in the area of 18600 Pine Forest Court. Firefighters being familiar with the area and knowing the potential for loss of homes and property quickly upgraded this incident to a second alarm response.

First crews on scene found the estimated seven acre fire was quickly moving toward several homes and employed direct attack firefighting tactics and were able to save the houses and other nearby structures from being destroyed while keeping fire spread to ten acres.

This second alarm incident involved not only nearby mountain fire stations but the help of fire crews from the valley, hand crews, dozers, type-2 helicopters and a battalion chief along with four engines from the Bureau of Land Management. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians on this incident.

The fire had moved to just several feet from some of the structures which again serves as a reminder to anyone living in rural areas of are county the importance of maintaining the prescribed defensible space for your area.
