Kern County, CA - October 26, 2009. Animal abuse is against the law,
and Kern County Animal Control is determined to bring those involved in
any form of abuse to justice.
“We are seeking the public’s help in identifying the party or parties involved in two terrible instances of animal abuse and cruelty that took place in July and October,” stated Guy Shaw, Director of Kern County Animal Control.
“Two Pit Bull pups, Smokey and Charlie, were severely abused with either a thermal or chemical product and left for dead. This is a horrible crime and we want to see justice for Smokey and Charlie.”
The incidents occurred on the east side of Bakersfield, in the areas of Fairfax and Niles and Monica and Pioneer.
Animal Control is urging anyone with any information on these two cases to contact their office immediately. Reporting parties can contact the main Department number
at 661-868-7100 or they can leave a tip through the Department’s website complaint page located at www.co.kern.ca.us/acd.
“We want the public to be aware of what is happening in their neighborhoods,” said Shaw. “If someone suspects abuse, neglect or cruelty to an animal, we urge them to contact our department right away so that we can investigate.
"With regards to this particular case, we encourage vigilance. Know what is going on around you, if you see anything suspicious involving chemicals or acid or you notice animals that appear to have burn symptoms, contact our office immediately.
"We want to put an end to this heinous crime and prevent further suffering upon animals.”
Animal Control Officers are increasing patrols of these areas in an effort to prevent any further abusive action.
