For residents of the Greater Tehachapi area, there's just one item on the Nov. 3 ballot: The $50 million Measure "A" that will fund construction of the new Tehachapi Hospital.
The total cost of building the hospital will be $67 million.
The Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District already has more than $17 million in the construction kitty -- $16.5 million from a previous bond ($15 plus interest) and the remainder from fundraising efforts, much of it by the Hospital Guild and its thrift shop on Green St.
The project is ready to go, with plans in the hands of the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) for preliminary review.
By law, no construction contracts can be awarded without the funds in the bank.

Vote "NO"....We can't just give money away blindly. Look at the previous bonds...What a mess...We're still paying & getting nothing in return. Stop filling your pockets with our money! Property taxes are high already. Wait until some of the other bonds expire & try again. I am on a fixed income & struggling as it is. Stop these con artists....Vote NO, NO, No, No, No, No!!!!!!!!
