A 58-year-old Tehachapi man was stabbed to death Monday morning, Nov. 2 in Bakersfield, law enforcement officials said.

Jerry Luther Ennis was found with a lacerated neck just after 1:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of M Street in Bakersfield. He was transported to Kern Medical Center where he died from his injuries at 2:12 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

The Bakersfield Police Department detained several persons of interest for questioning Monday morning, detective Mary DeGeare said.

DeGeare said she didn't know if those detained had been released as of Monday afternoon.

The victim's vehicle was parked approximately 50 feet south of where he was found, near an apartment building at 3619 M Street, several blocks from Chester Avenue, DeGeare said.

A trail of blood from the vehicle to the building was visible, DeGeare said.

Judging from his injuries, DeGeare said Ennis "wouldn't have been able to go very far" if he tried to drive after being stabbed.

Regarding information on the incident, DeGeare said, "Not a whole lot can be released."
