It’s been a two-horse race all season long in the South Sequoia League, and this Tuesday the league championship will be decided in a pivotal match against Tehachapi and Bakersfield Christian.
The Lady Warriors (23-4; 7-0 SSL) have put together one of the best seasons in school history, and are drawing near to their first league title since 2006.
To finish off an undefeated regular season and claim the championship, Tehachapi will have to mirror or eclipse their five-game thrilling win against the Eagles from three weeks ago.
“We have a big match against Bakersfield Christian and we have played consistent throughout league to set up this big game ,” said head coach Sally White. “The girls have been playing outstanding and we’re proud of their performance up to this point.”
Helping Tehachapi set up the monumental contest against BCHS this Tuesday was a pair of convincing wins over Arvin 25-12, 25-5, 25-11 and 25-15, 25-15, 25-15 this past week.
Sarah Horcher led the way in both games with 16 kills, 31 digs and six blocks, while Jasmine Julye had nine blocks and 10 kills and Persephonie Devereaux 20 blocks and nine kills.
Kelsey Kapitzke had 23 points won on serve, while Shelby Flick had 26 assists and 17 points won on serve. Chloe Podratz also had a team leading 17 digs in the first game against Arvin.
Other standouts included Sarah Carpenetti with 15 kills, Meghan Komin registering six kills and Paige Woodward 32 assists and four aces.
In the underclassmen ranks, the jayvee Lady Braves and frosh-soph Lady Indians also were victorious against Arvin.
Tehachapi will face Bakersfield Christian at home this Tuesday (Nov. 3) and Wasco at home on Wednesday (Nov. 4), and close the regular season on the road at Taft on Thursday (Nov. 5). All games will be at 4 p.m. (frosh-soph), 5 p.m. (jayvee) and 6 p.m. (varsity).
Free Admission to BCHS game
For all fans that can make the Bakersfield Christian game at home this Tuesday, the Lady Warriors are announcing free admission to the contest for all adults that wear Warrior gear and JMS/THS students that present an ASB card.
“We want to pack the stands,” said head coach Sally White. “We want to have as much spirit and support as possible from the crowd, it should be a great game.”
