Trojans Club Baseball playing strong
The Trojans baseball team is having their best season since the club formed in 2005, sporting a 13-13-1 record on the year with several tournaments left to play.
Playing above their age bracket, the Trojans currently consist of primarily 14-15 year old players with a few of 16 and 17 year olds. The Trojans have only played five games in their age group, with the majority of competition coming from 18-under competition, and one team consisting of college players, which they won with a 7-4 victory in nine innings.
The Trojans also went up against a Texas Rangers scout team in a double-header, tying them 3-3 the first game and losing a heart breaker, 5-3 in the second game.
“All in all they boys are doing very well, especially playing up in age. The fact that they are competing and winning against older teams is very impressive,” said coach Paul Wheeler.
The Trojans current roster of players are Travis Tessandori, Brock Tessandori, Nick Urso, Anthony Urso, Ben Woodward, Ross Feeley, Stephen Grimes, Will Estes, Monty Biggs, Keith Tatum, Tanner Kruse, Mike Cappella, Tyler Beardsley, Jake Pettitt, Mickey Phillips, Justin Hedberg and Trevor Burtz.
The Trojans have 16 games left this season, and are looking forward to next season as well.
The Trojans would like to ask the community for assistance in raising funds for the upcoming Triple Crown Slump Buster tournament held in Omaha, Neb. It is one of the biggest tournaments in the country and would be great exposure for our kids to be scouted by college coaches. The ultimate goal of the Trojans is to see that all of the players continue their education past high school and attend college, hopefully with academic and athletic scholarships.
The team would like to thank Don Morrison at Albertsons for his water donation for their tournaments, Lehigh Cement Co., Biggs and Co. and Stone Mountain Physical Therapy for their donations and support and Save Mart for their gift card donations. If there are any sponsors that would like to know how to get involved with the team, please Call Paul Wheeler at 661-496-9312 or e-mail pwheeler1@bak.rr.com.
