In cooperation with the Kern Air Pollution Control District (APCD), Local Fire Safe Councils, and local residents, Kern County Fire Department is proceeding with a series of controlled burns in the following areas: Golden Hills, Stallion Springs and Alpine Forest, Keene, and the Kern River Valley.
The plan is intended to reduce the threat of damage from wildfires in the area. The planning and preparation for these projects has been ongoing to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operation.
The project will consist of the burning of hazardous vegetation areas and the burning of hand piles that have been cut, stacked and dried for burning over previous months.
Fire department units will closely monitor each burn for safety. The Kern County Fire Department works closely with the local Fire Safe Council’s and community members and the APCD in identifying hazardous fuels treatment areas and project coordination.
We encourage and need the community’s support for the success of these and other projects.
