A long day, a warm car, a familiar road and the use of cruise control may all have been contributing factors that worked against commuter Kevin Eisler as he drove home from work Monday, Nov. 16.
Eastbound on Hwy. 58, just east of Broome Road, Eisler and his Hyundai Sonata became wedged beneath the back end of a semi truck and trailer.
The truck’s driver said he never felt the impact but thought he may have had a flat tire on the trailer.
Pulling over and exiting his cab, he walked back and found the vehicle stuck under his trailer with the driver still sitting in the car.
The smaller vehicle had left a trail of oil and parts for about a quarter of a mile.
With no apparent injuries, both drivers stood by the side of the road until help arrived.
The car’s driver, Eisler, 27, of California City, walked away with minor scratches.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident and trying to determine if Eisler might have fallen asleep on his drive home.

That third "Truck" lane has been proposed by Caltrans for at least ten years. We may never see it because most of the road funding goes south. If more people would complain to Caltrans, maybe they would resurrect the idea. http://www.dot.ca.gov/writeus.htm
There is nothing more fun than driving home after a long day at work only to get stuck behind truck that has cut you off to pass a truck that is only going 2 inches an hour slower ....
It's probably too narrow to build another lane eastbound from Gen. Beal road up dedicated for truckers. It's not as bad as the Baker grade on I-15, but it sure comes close at times. I hate driving home from Bakersfield.
