A long day, a warm car, a familiar road and the use of cruise control may all have been contributing factors that worked against commuter Kevin Eisler as he drove home from work Monday, Nov. 16.

Eastbound on Hwy. 58, just east of Broome Road, Eisler and his Hyundai Sonata became wedged beneath the back end of a semi truck and trailer.

The truck’s driver said he never felt the impact but thought he may have had a flat tire on the trailer.

Pulling over and exiting his cab, he walked back and found the vehicle stuck under his trailer with the driver still sitting in the car.

The smaller vehicle had left a trail of oil and parts for about a quarter of a mile.

With no apparent injuries, both drivers stood by the side of the road until help arrived.

The car’s driver, Eisler, 27, of California City, walked away with minor scratches.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident and trying to determine if Eisler might have fallen asleep on his drive home.

I am sure he fell asleep behind the wheel... cause he text me the next day. When are people going to realize that if you are too tired to drive, get off the road!
thanx P6, I'll send them my opinion for sure

That third "Truck" lane has been proposed by Caltrans for at least ten years. We may never see it because most of the road funding goes south. If more people would complain to Caltrans, maybe they would resurrect the idea. http://www.dot.ca.gov/writeus.htm

There is nothing more fun than driving home after a long day at work only to get stuck behind truck that has cut you off to pass a truck that is only going 2 inches an hour slower ....

It's probably too narrow to build another lane eastbound from Gen. Beal road up dedicated for truckers. It's not as bad as the Baker grade on I-15, but it sure comes close at times. I hate driving home from Bakersfield.

♥ If the CHP is ontop of this, where were they last night? Driving home from Bako I was probably the 25th car backed up in the fast line thinking 'What the heck is the problem up there" Ugh! Nothing more frustrating than that!
Oh yeah, whadda ya wanna bet Mr Eisler was on a cell phone?
Fact of the matter is: The CHP is aware and on top of that. They do indeed issue tickets for impeding traffic, the law states the vehicle passing in the left lane must be doing no less than 10 mph faster than the slower vehicle, but still not exceeding the speed limit. I.m with you here, it is annoying , discourteous, and other adjectives not allowed on this blog. But when I was in Denny's I have overheard truckers bitching about getting the ticket. But too bad. In their defense, a real, professonial driver does not do it. Only inexperienced ones, because one ticket is a point and $550. And rightfully so.
CHP needs to put extra patrols on the 58 from Bakersfield east bound past Tehachapi. Too many Truckers, while driving uphill and going 55 to 60 mph, pull into the left lane, cutting off vehicles that can legally travel over 55 mph, trying to pass other Truckers. While going uphill! Truckers are more and more becoming the most dangerous and inconsiderate drivers on the highways. And, those plastic containers that you see littering the sides of the highways, they don't contain apple juice.
