Sandra Srouji took this photo from high atop Jacaranda Drive in Bear Valley Springs looking north and far below towards the Loop Ranch and Highway 58, both of which had disappeared beneath a layer of low clouds. Clouds like these sometimes appear to pour or flow over mountain ridges and down into basins, looking more like liquid water than the water vapor of which they are comprised. In the Tehachapi area this phenomenon is most frequently observed by residents of BVS and Stallion Springs, whose mountaintop homes overlook the southern part of the San Joaquin Valley to the west. When clouds like these roll in like the biggest tsunami wave ever witnessed, local residents generally admire the beautiful view and give thanks that they are above the cloud front and not down in it.
