Lost Hills is a poet and songwriter from the Kern River Valley. He started performing on the San Diego folk scene in the 1980s, and began writing songs when he lived across the highway from the Old Time Cafe in Leucadia. He has traveled far and wide and has lived in Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Northern California, Bakersfield and Las Vegas, eventually returning to the Southern Sierra region where he grew up.
He is a student of the life and times of Woody Guthrie and the migration of the dust bowl refugees to California.
Lost Hills likes to play solo with acoustic guitar and harmonica. His songs of love, death and wandering in the wilderness are rooted in traditional American folk music and informed by his travels and experiences.
He loves songs that tell a story, like the old traditional ballads, songs that have something to say about the human condition, and songs that address the social and political issues of our day. He thinks that live performance is the purest artistic expression, but he's fond of saying, "I'm not a musician, I'm just a folk singer." Or maybe he's a storyteller with a guitar and harmonica.
Lost Hills will be at Mama HillyBean’s Organic Café on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. Mama HillyBean’s is located at 426 E. Tehachapi Blvd. No Cover. For more information call 822-2326.
