Right here, in small town Tehachapi at 9am on a nice Saturday morning, I received a phone call and will relate it here for your information:
ME:"Hello."
Canned voice recording, "Are you aware that your Visa and Mastercard interest rates will be automatically increased by 17 or more percent within the next 30 days? Press 8 to talk to an operator about what you need to do to prevent this".
ME: Pressing 8.
Live voice: "Please state your full name and credit card numbers so I can advise you accordingly".
ME: "Sure, please give me your full name and telephone number and I will call you back".
Live voice: "Certainly, do you have a pen handy?"
ME: "At the ready, go ahead".
Live Voice: CLICK!!!!!
Need I say more?

LOL awsmom...Sounds like alot of fun!! My voice sounds like a child's to some people, and it is alot of fun when someone calls the house and asks to speak to my mommy. I just tell them that she is in the shower with the next door neighbor's husband and she cannot come to the phone. The person on the other line hangs up really quickly...
You guys are missing all the fun!!!!! What you do when you get telephone solicitors on the phone you lead them on for as long as you can. Give them fake card #'s and credit amounts. Tell them how much you appreciate them telling you about credit card interest rates and talk their ear off....and toward the end let them know they have been scammed--by you. Sometimes my kids give it away because they are laughing so hard in the background.
I've gotten unsolicited phone calls in BVS from everything from replacement windows to carpet cleaning. I book an apt to a "new address as I've just bought another house" and moved and let them come out and try and find you. You need to scam the scammers.
Yes, thanks for following through and reporting. I usually just hang up, too.
Wow I've had this exact call on two separate occasions in the last few months. I never bothered pressing 8 though. I always hung up figuring it was a marketing gimmick. Thanks for showing just how much a scam it really is!
Another public service announcement by our one and only community activist jimr.
Thank you
