Why is Defending America un-American?

I cannot understand why this has continued in the courts. http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/09/16-illegals-sue-arizona-rancher/

A man owns property but is not supposed to defend it? An American citizen is supposed to allow any illegal Mexican to freely trespass and damage his property? They can blow it out their collective ears. Does this guy have a defense fund?

Amazing. I'm ready to hook up my RV tomorrow and go help this rancher if he'd have me.

"IRLI Successfully Defends Border Residents Right to Protect Themselves Against Illegal Aliens"

au.sys-con.com/node/845885

When this whole mess became news, I was outraged that a judge could allow this to proceed to trial.  Then someone mentioned that it may have been a calculated gamble on purpose.  By allowing the case to go to trial, especially in a state where citizens are fed up with the intrusion of illegal aliens, the judge may have been counting on an open and shut case, which it essentially was, thus setting a legal precedent.  If he had thrown the charges out in the beginning, there would not have been a trial and no precedent would have been set.

Good point Greg. It's no different than a citizens arrest.

Starbucks I thought the same thing. And in fact they have exactly the same agenda as the ACLU but with a more targeted clientele. MALDEF only represent Mexicans where the ACLU is an equal opportunity offender. I don't know which is worse!

In the first place I find it galling that the illegals are suing the ranch owner, after trespassing illegally on his land, and I also find it egregious that a US judge has allowed the suit to go forward.  I see nothing wrong with the ranch owner's actions, he did not harm anyone in anyway, and did nothing criminal.  He simply held them while waiting for the Border Patrol to arrive.  If the Border Patrol stopped a group of illegals and held them at gunpoint while they waited for backup, would that be any different?  Would they sue the Border Patrol?  Hardly.  Because then they would be suing the federal government instead of a citizen, and I doubt it would ever go to trial in that instance.

Which part are you questioning, Greg.  The actions of the property owner or the actions of the ACLU?  Just curious.

As ridiculous as this is, I'm guessing the trial will be over quickly and he'll be found not guilty.  But the fact that the whole thing could get this far is what is unbelievable.  Come on ???, please tell me how this is perfectly acceptable and normal, you know you want to.

When I first read this post, the first thing I thought was, "Hey, that sound slike something the ACLU would do", and sure enough, on your link blaze, the ACLU is referanced all over it,  why anyone can support this organization is beyond me, they are blantantly Anti-American.

Its funny how the rancher becomes the story when he's just fighting back against these people destroying his land. They report that the he has turned in over 12,000 illegals to the border patrol like that's a bad thing! The man is a patriot! So now he's being sued for protecting his land. Why aren't we prosecuting the illegals!! They have admitted they were sneaking in to our country! An overlooked point of this story is who is representing this group. Its MALDEF (Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund). They are not interested in protecting legal citizens of this country, just illegal ones. Check out this article about MALDEF. Be sure to read the list of companies that donate to them at the bottom of the article and the amount they donated just in case you decide you no longer want to do business with these companies. I know I won't. The most shocking reference is that the Ronald McDonald House Charities is giving money to MALDEF which means they are taking donations from unsuspecting generous people and giving it to an anti American group. If they only knew how their hard earned money was being spent! http://www.diggersrealm.com/mt/archives/002116.html

Too bad he can't file a countersuit.  It sounds to me like he made something akin to a citizens arrest, and should be congratulated.  And if his ranch is the "avenue of choice" for illegal immigrants, then maybe Border Patrol should step up patrols of the area.
