Fish & Chips Anyone?

So I went to Kmart yesterday and as I pulled into the parking lot I noticed a new Fish and Chips place in the building where Payless Shoes used to be.

I also have noticed a new candy/ gift store in the new building over by the new drive-thru deli.

With the economy the way it is don't you think it would be wise for these people to advertise. I mean people probably don't even notice they are there, and that can't be good for business!

I too noticed the new Fish & Chip place while on a shopping trip and decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised the fish was very good. Unfortunately the small food portions that you are given don’t fit the high prices. For nearly $6.50 you are given a 3”x 3” square of fish and a fist full of french fry’s. For that price the meal should have included a side salad and a drink. Don’t get me wrong, again the food was good and the portions were really were plenty for one person, but PLEASE lets see the price fit the portions size. I would suggest they either lower the prices or throw in an extra square of fish, a side salad and a drink.

Other than the prices the restaurant is very plain with no decorations to speak of. There is a counter to sit at, three plastic tables and a total of 10 chairs for seating. Sadly it almost looks as though the owner figures if the restaurant doesn’t make it she won’t have spent and lost too much on the endeavor.

My husband and I tried M&M Fish & Chips and were glad we did!  They fish was great and the restaurant was hoppin'!!!  Good Luck to the owners...I know we'll be going back on a regular basis.

Oh Joty- I will give them a try again. I can't resist fish n chips. I was just being thoughtless.

What an adorable baby countygirl.... Congrats!!

Give the new fish place a chance, that's what soft openings are for, although I hoped the hot dog place would get better and look how well that turned out.  Cold buns out of a bag?  What were they thinking?

Is the candy store open?  Abba Zabba bars, squeeze all of the peanut butter into your mouth and then chew the taffy outer all at once, look mom, no fillings!

I went with high expectation to the soft opening and they had run out of fish at 5 :30 pm. I felt bad for the Seniors walking in as a group talking about how they were happy we finally had a fish n chips place. It is just so typical Tehachapi. So "Do not have it together to prosper" is what I mean. I hope they get business savvy.  I was once again not surprised.

Necco wafers! My 8yr old daughter loves those. It's funny, I used to like 'em as a kid, but now they taste like medicine to me! I may have to check out the F&C place this weekend if they are serving. Thanks. (very cute baby btw, countygirl)

I have no idea if it's the same owner Joty, but I'm craving some sour balls! :) It's hard to find the good ones. You have to go to a Candy Factory or something. They used to sell the best cherry sours at the theater. I was really bummed when they stopped selling them. I used to go watch movies just for the candy! lol

No way!  You mean like Necco Wafers and Beeman's Gum?  I'll have to check it out!

I'm waiting for the F&C to open. I have high hopes! I just saw the candy store this weekend as well. My wife said they have all of the old classic candies. I'll be hitting that place up for Atomic Fireballs!

I'm excited to try the new fish and chips place- I just recently found out that I could eat fish after having been allergic to it since I was a kid.  So of course, all I want to eat is fish!  I'm going to try to go there sometime this weekend.
