The 5k(3.20 miles) was last Saturday June 30th in Bear Valley at about 6:30 am. I've been waiting for months for the race. I've NEVER ran in any sort of race before in my life. I've started running since February and was barely able to go half a mile at that time.
So as we started I began in the back, passed a few people up. But during it I kept getting passed. Anyway, some of it had some really good incline hills and such. I placed 21st overall out of 60 people and 4th in my age group coming in at 28:31. I beat another guy behind me by exactly one whole second. I sprinted to the finish line and felt pretty good about finishing, since a few weeks ago I was barely able to go 1 mile without having to stop. So finishing it all the way through straight was a good feeling. It was 3.20 miles.
I made a newbie mistake though. Probably .05 before the finish line there was an explorer(they are like kids who have junior police officers kinda deal thing) and there were two cones out in the road and I took out my ipod earbud and asked him if that was the finish line and he was like "Yes" so I stopped. I started walking like I was finished and I looked behind me and this guy is still running so I was like well I better keep going just to make sure. So I sprinted as fast as I could after that and it appears he was wrong. The finish line was obviously ahead where everyone else was. But oh well...
