The real deal on why Jehovah's Witnesses refuse blood transfusions.
Jehovah's Witnesses have a non negotiable doctrine of their belief system to reject blood products.
The origin of this dogma comes from their founding father Joseph Rutherford in the early 20th century. The consumption (eating) of blood was strictly forbidden under old testament kosher law.
The Watchtower leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses saw fit to extend this prohibition over to their belief system.
They thought that the "end of the world" was coming back then (ca.1940) so there would never be much causality.
It is well into the 21st century, with the "end of the world" on hold
,the Watchtower leaders have blood on their hands, with the deaths of innocent minor children.

Many children have died since rejecting life saving blood transfusions. Why do they maintain adherence to this archaic creed at all cost?
Answer:The man-made Watchtower cult is run by lawyers who know they would be sued out of existence for wrongful death suits,if they dared to outright repeal the bogus no blood ruling now.
UPDATE:The absurdity of the Watchtower rulings now allow any of the COMPONENTS of blood to be transfused, but not whole blood, and yet people are dying and lives and families are being ruined over a few old men who are always changing their minds on this matter.

Jehovah's Witnesses do use many products that are derived from blood banks (so called blood 'fractions') but they themselves won't donate a drop)

We are obedient to Jehovah God and we are safer.
When we are united in our stand on blood, medicine has moved forward from the time and ways of the rest of
the people in their use of "Stone Knives and Bear Skins". Jehovah by his command and the united brotherhood has kept us safe, from the problems that many are going through.
Some claim that many devout and obedient Jehovah's Witnesses have died from refusing blood. Is that a problem?
As if Christians dying is a new thing? Faithful servants of Jehovah God have died from their obedience to Jehovah from the time of Abel. Daniel 3 tells of 3 Hebrews who would die rather than bowing to the image of the Babylonian ruler. The Bible speaks of many other occasions.
Acts 12:1,2 "Herod the king applied his hands to mistreating some of those of the congregation. 2 He did away with James the brother of John by the sword"
Oh. James died because he decided to be a Christian and follow Christ. Why is no one on here crying over that?
The reason is that people have such a shallow view of Christianity, that is pathetic. People in general, people other than Jehovah's Witnesses, are not interested in Christianity and in God's kingdom. As one person above stated that he does not like us bothering him at dinner time. What a shallow thing to say. If you were our brother in the faith you would not be considering it a bother. That really shows how shallow humans in their relationships are today.
What is also pathetic is the constant association of the Watchtower with Jehovah's Witnesses. The Watchtower is the name of a magazine and a printing company used by Jehovah's Witnessess. They are not one the same. Give us the credit for choosing obedience and thus choosing life.
I don't know who all wrote the Bible, and I don't know what Jesus said. I do know that I find it sad that people/children are dying because of their religious beliefs, BUT... It is the individual choices and beliefs of people that I respect most. If adults choose to die instead of going against their beliefs, I must respect that. I understand a bit more about religion than I did when I started posting on this blog. I understand that there are many denominations of Christianity, and many other religions and non religious beliefs. People are diverse and many do not agree with each other and they do not always see life in the same way. For instance, I am a Buddhist, I am also an atheist. Not many people on this Blog are going to agree with my ideas when it comes to religion. I don't believe in reincarnation, IF I did... It may be my belief that I was meant to die so that I can come back as a Buddha. If this was indeed my belief, I would not want man to save me with blood or any other life saving technique. This would be my right. I have the right to die naturally. You may not agree with me. You also have no say in the matter. This is what religious freedom is all about. People who insist that all people must live and believe as they do are also the people who start wars and spread hate. Religious Freedom is what brings peace to all.
I believe people have a right to live and die as they want.
The command to abstain from eating blood was one of 650 rules and regulations imposed on the ancient Israelites.
Picking up a stick (for firewood) on the sabbath got a man stoned to death.
Jehovah's Witnesses claim to be modern Christains of which the old testament don't apply.Jesus said only TWO commandments now (1) Love God (2) Love thy neighbor.

Witness's refusal of transfusion costs his life, splits his family
Montreal Gazette, Canada -
A young Jehovah's Witness's decision to refuse a blood transfusion - which eventually led to his death - has split his family
Here are a few facts about blood transfusions (also "from a medical
viewpoint"). I emphasize the word "facts" not to be disrespectful or
sound haughty by any means, but solely because these are
substantiated as verifiable numbers from trustworthy sources.
According to the American Red Cross, only1 blood
transfusion in 205,000 transmits a hepatitis B infection, and 1 blood
transfusion in 1,935,000 transmits hepatitis C. In most cases there
are no symptoms.
Several steps are routinely taken to reduce the risk of hepatitis
from blood transfusion. Potential donors are asked questions about
hepatitis risk factors and symptoms of hepatitis, and blood is tested
to find hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and liver problems that
might point to other types of hepatitis.
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV): HIV causes acquired immune
deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Testing the blood supply for HIV began in
1985, and several tests for HIV are now used on all donated blood.
With improved testing for HIV, the number of transfusion-related AIDS
cases continues to drop. The risk of HIV transmission through
transfusion is ONLY 1 in 2,135,000. In addition to testing, the risk
is reduced by asking donors questions about HIV risk factors and
symptoms.

ETO_1_4x_Possible_Risks_of_Blood_Product_Transfusions.asp?sitearea=ETO
"The chance of contracting AIDS from a blood transfusion in the UK is
less than 1 in 2,000,000. This is classified as a negligible risk, of
the same order as the chance of being struck by lightning. The
current risk of a blood donation being infected with hepatitis B or
hepatitis C is 1 in 200,000. There is no proven or even probable
instance of transmission of CJD by blood, blood components and blood
products. In comparison, the risk of dying while playing soccer is 1
in 25,000 (i.e. at least 80 times more likely than being infected
with HIV and 8 times more likely than being infected with hepatitis B
or hepatitis C). The risk of dying in a road accident is
approximately 250 times greater than the risk of AIDS from a blood
transfusion, and 25 times greater than the risk of catching hepatitis
B or hepatitis C."

56 Facts About Blood and Blood Donation:
http://www.bloodcenters.org/aboutblood/bloodfacts.htm
"One in 20 Americans will require a blood transfusion at some point
in their lives."
"In almost every case, the lifesaving benefits of receiving a blood
transfusion outweigh the risk of contracting an infectious disease."
The risks of complications or diseases from receiving a
transfusion are far less than the risks involved if one chooses NOT
to get that transfusion at all. Especially is this the case when one
is in an auto accident, has major surgery where significant blood is
lost, cancer treatments, anemia and a host of many other legitimate
reasons. The benefits simply outweigh the risks.
"In fact, about 5 million people each year in the United States get
blood transfusions."
http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/medical_care/transfusions.html
"4.5 million: the number of American lives saved each year by blood
transfusions."
http://www.americasblood.org/index.cfm?
fuseaction=display.showPage&pageID=12
If in just just the U.S. alone, 5 million people receive transfusions
EACH YEAR, Tens of
millions of people, or more, receive blood transfusions each year,
worldwide. This means that tens of millions of lives may be saved
each year. Even if only one million people's lives are actually saved
(though the numbers are clearly higher) losing one percent, or even
five percent to the negative side-effects involved is still some
pretty good numbers overall. The number of people that
die from heart surgery complications is probably in the tens of
thousands each year as well, maybe more. Yet hundreds of thousands of
heart surgeries are performed each year despite some dying. Again, the benefits simply
outweigh the risks.
Some say, "So no one can truthfully say that a person died because he
did not receive a transfusion".
This is the most insensitive and irresponsible statementone can make.
No data on earth, nor in any of your literature would ever make such
a ludicrous claim as this. Blood does save life. It has for decades.
I have seen articles and videos where Jehovah's Witnesses died solely
because they refused blood. One 43 year old woman had a very simple
problem while undergoing routine surgery. Medical professionals were
able to correct the problem in due time. However, she absolutely
NEEDED to replace the blood that was lost initially, during the
surgery. She did not receive that blood and ended up dead. Here is
that story. It is a normal local television news story. Here is the
link to this story:

If that link does not work, go to this page.

Go back to ANY operation, for just a moment. Yes, there are definite
risks involved -as you were well aware of- but people opt for these
surgeries anyway, recognizing the benefits outweighed the risks,
probably by a good margin. The same in principle would also apply
with driving a car to work. There are definite risks involved any
time we get into our cars and out in traffic. People die every single
day from all kinds of automobile accidents. Still, it does not stop
us from using our cars to go out wherever and whenever we wish. We
all recognize that the benefits of using our automobiles far outweigh
those risks, even though there are indeed definite risks. Blood
transfusions are absolutely no different! Yes there are risks, there
is no denying that. But when a human being finds himself in the
position of needing one, at that point in his life, most likely the
slight risks involved are far outweighed by the benefits. In many
cases, it even means life and death.
You could go one step further even; look at the risks involved by
Jehovah sending is only begotten son into the earth. What if Jesus
was NOT faithful, or failed any of the many tests put before him.
There was such a chance. What a wreck it could have been. Imagine the
consequences. The devil knew this and is why he tried to have him
killed and tested him directly, offering even the kingdoms of the
world. It's one reason Jesus prayed so fervently to his father, to do
his father's will. Look however at all of the benefits that came from
such a decision. ALL mankind has benefitted. Jesus himself is now
KIng at God's right hand. The devil was proved a liar etc etc. I hope
you see that the principle involved of accepting blood transfusions,
in life threatening situations, as being one that can and does make
perfectly good sense for those in such a position, medically
speaking. If it were me, I would prefer to avoid needlessly receiving
a transfusion for minor matters. However, if my life were on the
line, I would choose to have one, because I do value life over death.
85%, I find that hard to believe. Can you post a link to the AMA story you got that from? When was the last time AIDS was transferred by a blood transfusion? 1988. No one hates JW's, we just hate it when you come to our door at dinner time.
http://kidshealth.org/kid/feel_better/things/transfusions.html Here is a link to a kids website talking about this. If kids can understand it maybe we can.
Shame on you! Show me one Doctor's prognosis that either an adult or child who died would have lived had they received a blood transfusion. Just one...You won't find any because no Doctor can make that determination.
The AMA says that 85% of all patients refuse blood because of the diseases like AIDS, Hep, etc. that are blood born. In fact, why not actually do a little research and see what the professionals say about blood transfusions. Such as, recovery time is much more rapid and without problem when no transfusions are administered. Or how about blood salvage, eproeitin which is far better than blood.
You are motivated out of hate for JW's not concern for others.
Gillfish ask " Isn't' there a way to do surgery without blood transfusions? My Father In Law had a procedure done a Loma Linda without the transfusion."
Danny Haszard reply-This is the deal, most elective surgeries can be done without blood in a world class hospital. What is deadly is when a Jehovah's Witnesses gets in a car accident and has massive trauma blood loss in a country hospital.
Blood Transfusions Spoken of Favorably
The following quotation is taken from LUZ y VERDAD (The Golden Age as printed in Mexico) of June 1934, page 91. A quick translation reads as follows:
Many mothers don't sell the milk that the nature gave them for their children, do they? For this reason we should not admire those who trade with their blood. After Landsteiner's discoveries, special entities have been formed that provide blood for necessary transfusions. Only those have the luxury [to give blood] that belong to the group O (zero), because, as has already been said, their blood is compatible to all humans. From statistics we see that in 1929, 7,000 persons sold blood in the hospitals of the United States, [in resonse to] calls in urgent cases and that they saved the lives of many people that had lost their own blood for one cause or another.
In England there are societies whose members offer their blood freely to those that have need. A society that was created in London that is affiliated with the Red Cross is spoken of with praise because its members offer needed blood in urgent cases. The majority of those [who donate blood] are strong and healthy youth, of diverse backgrounds, that contribute in this way in a really generous fashion to the salvation of the sick or injured. They are not paid a cent for their contribution, but society knows them and it respects them as they deserve to be respected.
The Mending of a heart
In New York city a house wife in moving a boarder's things accidentally shot herself through the heart with his revolver. She was rushed to a hospital, her left breast was cut around, four ribs were cut away, the heart was lifted out, three stitches were taken, one of the attending physicians in the great emergency gave a quart of his blood for transfusion, and today the woman lives and smiles gaily over what happened to her in the busiest 23 minutes of her life.

This is major national news in Canada right now over custody of JW sextuplets who need blood.
The Jehovah's Witnesses apologist keep posting that,"...it's God's command to abstain from blood"...NO it is not! It is the command of your Watchtower leaders who's last utterance is that it's now okay to take all the 'parts' of blood but not whole blood. The entire doctrine is senseless and deadly.
The Bible says nothing about blood transfusions. They didn't exist when the Old Testament and Acts were written.
The Bible passages (Kosher law) in question have to do with diet. Neither the Jews nor other groups oppose blood transfusions because they don't try to put a spin on something that isn't there. If the Watchtower had not issued this prohibition, no Jehovah's Witness would oppose them on Biblical grounds.
