What kind of America would you be willing to die for, would you sacrifice your children to die for, and what kind of America are our troops being ordered to die for now? What kind of America did those we commemorate at this time die for? Walt Kelly had a strip going with the bats using a toy telephone that would communicate with the departed. If we had any such means of contacting the noble dead being commemorated by Memorial Day would we be asked to “Press one for English?”
For the time being Memorial Day isn’t being remembered with Mexican flags displayed, though there are some that seem to believe it should at the very least be flying alongside the American flag, and there are many places in America where this is actually the case, and if you attempt to call any number of places in America you will be asked to “Press one for English” and a Federal Dictatorship prints ballots in Spanish, forces courts, schools, and medical facilities provide services in Spanish. This is not the America those whose lives were sacrificed died for, it is the America of politicians and their corporate masters profiting from the invasion of millions of illegal aliens from the barbaric and totally corrupt nation of Mexico for the sake of slave labor profiting the wealthy of both nations. This at the same time Mexico is not held to account for its own citizens and cooperate in securing our common borders. If we could ask the noble dead to stand as a tribunal against the politicians and their corporate masters they would say they died for America not Mexico; and they would be speaking in English, not Spanish.
The fact that our rulers take advantage of Mexicans for the military, that some of these are killed as a consequence of fighting in the wars our politicians and their corporate masters make for power and profit does not blunt the fact that Memorial Day does not commemorate the dead of Mexico but of America, though Ronald Reagan made his own more than substantial contribution in confusing what this time of remembrance and paying a nation’s respect to those whose lives were sacrificed is supposed to be about.
Remember when Reagan laid a wreath on SS graves at Bitburg in May of 1985? “Hours earlier, Mr. Reagan stood before an obelisk at the site of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where 50,000 victims of the Nazis are buried in mass graves under mounds of heather... Jewish demonstrators from the United States, France, Britain, West Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Israel and other countries protested the President’s visit to Bergen-Belsen as well as the stop at Bitburg. They were joined by groups of veterans and politicians, many of them weeping. Rabbis Refuse to Attend. Although Roman Catholic and Protestant clergymen took part in the ceremonies at the Bergen-Belsen site, German rabbis refused to attend because of the Bitburg visit...”
Gerry Trudeau did a strip at the time in which he has Reagan very nearly calling those in the SS and even Hitler himself victims of the war. Did Reagan secretly admire Hitler and the Nazis? Few would come right out and say so, but then why didn’t Reagan understand that by granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens he was opening the floodgates to the invasion of America by Mexico? If Reagan was capable of crocodile tears at Bergen-Belsen followed by honoring the SS with a wreath what other evil was he capable of?
Thoreau called the railroad a “relative” good. But it was relative to the greater good he believed America might have accomplished without the slave labor of the Irish the railroads required. On the west coast, the railroads would require the slave labor of the Chinese. But even as an abolitionist Henry would never have agreed to the sacrifice of 600,000 lives for the sake of Lincoln’s War, nor would Harriet Stowe have ever set pen to paper if she knew how her novel would have been enormously successful propaganda for such a war.
There is cause to doubt whether it was in the best interests of the colonies to separate from England; that behind the moral forces supporting such a thing there was a very dark evil more concerned about wealth and power than any moral ideals. But once successful, why was the evil of slavery not abolished by our Constitution? We read the stories about those of the Founding Fathers that opposed slavery; that seemed in good conscience opposed to it but did not prevail. The short answer is slavery carried the day for the sake of profits. That it was an obvious evil in every sense failed to overcome the profit motive.
While those of us who see the Warren and 9/11 Commissions as a cover for the greater evil of those dedicated to wealth and power understand there is nothing such evil persons are incapable of, I would like to know what very important people were not in the towers at the time of the attack and what of supreme importance to such people was safely removed before 9/11?
Lists of the most interesting unexplained phenomena such as the beginning of the universe and including things like UFOs and ESP are being compiled all the time. Some of these items are downright spooky, as in ghosts. But among the most eerie phenomena is how America could come to the place our nation now finds itself in, ruled either by lunatics or those with a history of evil reaching back to the very beginning of humankind against which good people seem never to be able to prevail.
