Immigrant-bashing bills are back in Legislature

Measures aim at punishing immigrants and appeasing Texas' nativist sentiments

Yes we can..........

Do we really want to beat around this bush again? Apparently so. More than a dozen bills have been filed in this session of the Texas Legislature that fall into the immigrant-bashing category. Many of them are returns from the 2007 session where they had been thoughtfully consigned to the legislative graveyard.

But several of the measures are back. One would challenge the automatic American citizenship given those born in Texas. One would punish employers for hiring unauthorized workers. One would require public schools to maintain records on students' immigration status. Another would impose a fee on money wire transfers to Mexico and Latin America. Another would prohibit parole for illegal immigrants and still another would create a state criminal trespassing charge for illegal immigrants that would be enforced by local police.http://www.caller.com/news/2009/jan/08/immigrant-bashing-bills-are-back-in-legislature/

Here's a funny email someone sent me the yesterday...

"Sometimes I think Maxine should run for president - !

Everyone concentrates on the problems we're having in this country lately -- illegal immigration, hurricane recovery, alligators attacking people in Florida ...

... not me -- I concentrate on solutions for the problems -- it's a win-win situation.

* Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.

* Send the dirt to New Orleans to raise the level of the levees.

* Put the Florida alligators in the moat along the Mexican border."

Well, let's see...

"One would challenge the automatic American citizenship given those born in Texas."

"One would punish employers for hiring unauthorized workers."

"One would require public schools to maintain records on students' immigration status."

"Another would impose a fee on money wire transfers to Mexico and Latin America."

"Another would prohibit parole for illegal immigrants."

"Another would create a state criminal trespassing charge for illegal immigrants that would be enforced by local police."

I can't really see anything wrong with any of these, they all sound like good ideas to me.  Here's a typical idiot comment from the article posted above, "Look out today...Here come the Haters!!!!!!!!!!".  Because people want to put a stop to illegal immigration they're called 'haters', that's so misguided it's pathetic.
