What an awesome trip we had! Belize is such a wonderful country - I highly recommend a trip there for anyone who wants to see some history, revel in amazing wildlife, and enjoy some of the best scenery in the world.
We started out spending 3 days in the jungle, and the sounds outside our suite rivaled anything I'd experienced in a noisy city in volume level. We visited 2 Mayan temples & the guides we had for our tours were very educated in the Mayan culture as well as the wildlife that inhabit the area. There's a huge number of bird & butterfly species to observe, as well as other animals like iguanas, howler monkeys, & peccaries. When we left to catch our plane to our next destination, we stopped at the Belize Zoo for a tour of their rehab facility for injured wildlife. There's a beautiful jaguar housed there named Junior, who puts on quite a show for the cameras!
Then we traveled to Ambergris Caye to enjoy the ocean, and get a little pampering at the resort/spa. Hubby spent several days scuba diving & reef fishing, and we both had a great experience snorkeling with the rays, sharks, sea turtles, and other sea-life teeming there.
Food was delicious, the people living there are fascinating, and we met quite a few other couples from California & other parts of the US through our various activities.
I'll be setting up a photo album through my Kodak web-page soon, so if anyone is interested in seeing our pics send me your email in a PM & I'll send you a link as soon as I have it pulled together.
Although we found it hard to leave our vacation behind, it's so nice to be home!

Thanks dear swilli - we actually planned for the transition back. We got in around 4 am Saturday morning, so with the holiday on Monday we had a nice chunk of time before we had to be back to work.
Deeeeelighted you're back, oohchild! I am almost able to enjoy Belize vicariously through your description. June is just around the courner, Notso. You are a lucky duck. I know you will have a great vacation. We will think of you on your inner tube. How fun.
Have you made the "back from vacation" adjustment yet, oohchild?
Ripe tomatoes......ha-ha!!!!! I can totally relate to that one..... we rented a scooter once in St. Marteen and forgot to put the sunscreen on the tops of our feet. When we got back to the ship and took our flip-flops off, it was brutal, they were the color of ripe tomatoes. Lesson learned needless to say.
Thanks for recommendation on the Mayan temples. I think we might just do that. I do want to see some of the jungle areas as well. Sitting in a inner-tube and floating into caves is also my bag baby. I'm just ready to relax and have some fun with my Honey. I think waiting for day we leave for Miami is the hardest part. Dog-gone-it.....hurry up already June. I'm going to order some Cactus Juice today. I'm funny about the way some sunscreens/ bug repellent smell.....but I trust your judgment.
Once again.....glad your back safe and sound and had a fabulous time!!!!!
Thanks, sweetie. Hope you have a wonderful time, too!
The Cactus Juice was terrific - smells nice, works well against the bugs (even though they weren't as bad as we'd been led to believe, since they're still in their dry season) and provided adequate sunscreen protection. For me, at least. I limited my sun exposure as much as I could. Hubby OTOH got pretty toasted the day he went reef fishing - his knees looked like ripe tomatoes when he came in that day!
Anything you guys decide to do & see will be fabulous. I highly recommend a visit to one of the Mayan temples. You will be awe struck at the complexity of the buildings, when you realize they probably had to use strictly man-power to build them (no evidence of pack animals are present at any of the sites.)
YAY!!!!!! Welcome home oochild......I'm so glad you had a wonderful vacation!!!! Send me the link.....I would love to look at some beautiful pictures and get excited all over again! 18 more days and we leave!!! We were thinking of doing a dive in Key West and just exploring the jungles and maybe go cave tubing in Belize. ???? Still haven't made up our minds. Anyway, glad you're back and I'm looking forward to seeing beautiful Belize......hey, how was the Cactus Juice?
