Alfred W. Combs entered into rest on Sept. 20, 2017. Alfred was born May 19, 1924, to Alfred and Bessie Combs of Memphis, Tenn.

Alfred served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three and a half years, followed by 30 years of employment at General Telephone. After his retirement, he continued service to his country by serving on the grand jury for three years and for seven years was a member of the Ontario Mounted Police. Alfred enjoyed his horses, hunting, camping and traveling the United States with his wife.

Alfred married Virginia M. Shepard on June 29, 1947, in Pomona. They were married for 64 years until her passing, a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving Alfred are his two daughters, Marilyn (Bret) Thompson of Tehachapi, Calif., and Carolyn Bellavance (Bill) Hatch of Como, Texas; three granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Because of medical issues, Alfred moved to Tehachapi five years ago to be closer to family. He made many friends at the Senior Center, which he enjoyed so much. The family expresses their sincere thanks to Patty Mitchell for all the loving care she gave him.

Arrangements were made with the assistance of Wood Family Funeral Service.
